Katherine and Meara met in high school in Newport Beach, CA, where they shared an appreciation for all things artistic (and a need for sunblock SPF 60+). After graduation, Katherine realized her dream of becoming a magazine editor in New York City, while Meara racked up an extraordinary resume working with top architectural firms in Boston and Los Angeles. Remaining close friends throughout the years, the two saw an opportunity to combine their strengths and rekindle their creative vision when Katherine returned to California in 2010. A deep friendship, mutual respect and a true passion for design lies at the heart of the NelsonDaly partnership.
Katherine brings extensive experience as a magazine editor and design journalist to her role as founding partner of NelsonDaly. Educated at Vassar College, Katherine worked in New York City for many years at magazines including Harper's Bazaar and the award-winning design magazine, Print. Her freelance writing has appeared in The New York Times,The Los Angeles Times and Metropolis magazine among other esteemed publications. She is author of the book New Scandinavian Design, an award-winning and comprehensive survey about design in the nordic countries (Chronicle Books). Since completing programs in Art History at UCLA and Boston University, Meara has collaborated with architects on the east and west coasts providing marketing services on everything from exhibits to proposals, from photo shoots to lectures. From 1995-2000 she was the marketing director for Leers Weinzapfel Associates in Boston, MA, where the firm won commissions from the GSA, Ohio State University and Harvard University. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2000, she collaborated with a number of clients including providing marketing services for Daly Genik, Gensler and event planning and communications services for Form Zero Bookstore + Gallery. Her strengths reside in creating content for architectural firms that is approachable, accessible, and most importantly, a reflection of the voice of the firm. In addition Meara has provided content, writing and editing services for a number of private clients. Meara now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and young daughter.
